10050 Cielo Drive

Built in 1944 by French actress Michèle Morgan, 10050 Cielo Drive was sited on 3 acres (12,000 m²) of land, high above Los Angeles, California with views of Sunset Boulevard and the Pacific Ocean. Built to represent a French country barn, the property included a guesthouse and swimming pool.

Its history of residents include Lillian Gish, Cary Grant, Henry Fonda, next to last was Paul Revere & The Raiders Manager Roger Hart and roomate Terry Melcher, Doris Days son, through the summer of 1968. In 1969 it was occupied by director Roman Polanski and his then wife, actress Sharon Tate. It became infamous following the murders of Sharon Tate, Wojciech Frykowski, Abigail Folger, Jay Sebring and Steven Parent there at the hands of the Charles Manson "Family" on August 9, 1969 (caretaker William Garretson, living in the guest cottage behind the main house, was the only survivor).

In later years, rock stars Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson recorded albums there.

The house was demolished in 1994 and the location's address was changed to 10066 Cielo Drive. A new mansion called "Villa Bella" has been built on the site. It remains unfinished and vacant. It has an asking price of $7,500,000, far below the original asking price of $12,000,000. The infamous front door survives; Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, the final tenant, took it with him and installed it as the front door of his label, Nothing Records, which was based in New Orleans.

In September 2004, Reznor closed his studio on Magazine Street and moved to Los Angeles. The studio was still up for sale in early 2007 complete with the door.
