The year 1999 in film involved some significant events, and was arguably the most successful year for films released in the 1990s. Several new feature films including , The Sixth Sense, new sequel Toy Story 2, first of The Matrix, Disney's animated Tarzan, The Mummy , and the suburban American Beauty were released.

Events

• April 17 - Star Wars fans begin lining up at movie theaters in Westwood and Hollywood to buy tickets for .
• November 18 - Toy Story 2, a sequel to the 1995 film Toy Story, is released in theaters across the United States. The movie is expected to be released in the United Kingdom in the upcoming February.
