Information about Azerbaijani hip hop

Hip hop music is a musical genre from the United States. The style adapted well to Azerbaijani music because of the native practice of meykhana, a kind of unaccompanied song, usually performed by several people improvising on a particular subject. The first rap track was created by Azerbaijan's national hero Chingiz Mustafayev in 1980s. In modern times, groups like Dayirman have become fairly well-known for their style of fiercely patriotic Azeri rap. Their first album, which came out in 1999, gained fame for its modernized treatment of ancient Azeri folk songs. Some Azeri hip hop groups and rappers are:
