Azerbaijani hip hop
Information about Azerbaijani hip hop
Hip hop music is a musical genre from the United States. The style adapted well to Azerbaijani music because of the native practice of meykhana, a kind of unaccompanied song, usually performed by several people improvising on a particular subject. The first rap track was created by Azerbaijan's national hero Chingiz Mustafayev in 1980s. In modern times, groups like Dayirman have become fairly well-known for their style of fiercely patriotic Azeri rap. Their first album, which came out in 1999, gained fame for its modernized treatment of ancient Azeri folk songs.
