CatDog is an American animated television series on Nickelodeon, created by Peter Hannan. It premiered on October 5, 1998, and tells the story of conjoined twins: the suave, intelligent Cat, and naive, optimistic Dog. The show ended in February 2002.

CatDog live in a house shaped like a fish and a bone in the town of Nearburg, which they share with Winslow Oddfellow, a small blue mouse with a wise guy attitude who constantly torments them. They always get into trouble with the Greasers. The gang is formed by three dogs: the boss is Cliff, while the other two followers are Lube and Shriek, an obvious reference to the gang called the Greasers in the book The Outsiders, and possibly to West Side Story.

The show was never particularly popular, though it had a decent-sized fan base, particularly among younger children and pre-teens during its initial run. It is still occasionally re-run on Nickelodeon, and continues to be re-run daily on Nicktoons Network. CatDog has appeared on Nicktoons Caught on Tape. In Australia it is still played. The show, like many other 1990s shows, has not been released on DVD (with the exception of the 3-minute short "Winslow's Documentary" which appeared on the DVD of The Rugrats Movie), and it is unknown if it will be. However, the first two seasons of CatDog are accessible for purchase via iTunes.

Characters

  • Cat
Voiced by Jim Cummings, is the smarter one of the brothers, and is always hatching some kind of plot to get his brother to do something for him or to calm down, so that Cat doesn't get beat around and hurt. It may not show all the time, but he deeply loves and cares about his brother Dog. Both he and Dog are ambidextrous.
  • Dog
Voiced by Tom Kenny, is the more lovable of the two brothers. Dog loves to play and party and play some more. He loves baseball and playing fetch with frisbees, balls, sticks, etc. One of his biggest interests is in chasing the garbage truck. He is very friendly and happy, but does have a breaking point. He's very sensitive, and if he fails at something he feels horrible and worthless. It usually takes his brother Cat to help snap him out of it and relax.
  • Cliff
Voiced by Tom Kenny, is the leader of The Greasers. This brutal bulldog is the typical cartoon "Spike," with a touch of an Italian/Brooklyn accent. As the leader of the gang he has a rep of being the toughest of the three, though he has a hidden vulnerable side. The vulnerable side usually comes out when he's extremely frightened about something or very sad. His real name is Clifford Maurice Feltbottom.
  • Shriek
Voiced by Maria Bamford, is a tough girl, "I AM A GIRL!" she "shrieks" while trying to live up to her tomboy ways. Shriek is a purebred poodle born in a very wealthy family. She grew up in her parents' mansion with her mom and her dad. They gave her everything a girl could ever dream of, or so they thought. She seeks more in life: adventure, excitement, and brass knuckles. Shriek is also in love with Dog and shows this in many of the episodes. It is said in some episodes that Cat loves Shriek.
  • Lube
Voiced by Carlos Alazraqui, is the dumbest of the gang. He has a thought process similar to that of a little child. This however makes him good with kids, as we notice when he's taking care of Winslow while impersonating Cliff's niece. Despite Winslow's bratty attitude, Lube doesn't lose his temper. He just goes with the flow doing everything Winslow tells him to. He says with a sweet smile and sincere voice, "Uh, ok baby." In one episode, it is revealed that his real name is Ignatius, for which he is thoroughly harassed by the other Greasers.
  • Winslow
Voiced by Carlos Alazraqui, is a sarcastic and arrogant blue mouse who lives in CatDog's home. Although he makes fun of both Cat and Dog he is particularly bad to Cat and finds a lot of joy in getting Cat into trouble. He can, on occasion, be quite friendly to Dog and Dog treats Winslow quite kindly in return but Cat hates Winslow and doesn't understand how Dog can be friendly towards him.
  • Rancid Rabbit
Voiced by Billy West, is a green rabbit and seems to be a rich businessman who occasionally tricks CatDog to earn more money. He has many jobs including mayor, doctor, camp counselor, toy salesman, restaurant owner, life guard, dentist, sumo wrestler, president, animal catcher and clown. He is seen in many episodes and is seemingly the main villain on the show. Rancid Rabbit also has a very nasal sounding talking voice in which he is made fun of by CatDog in numerous episodes.
  • Mr. Sunshine
Voiced by Billy West, is a character who is very often seen but is seldom heard other than the occasional "have no fear sunshine is here" in the hypnotize episode when all the characters are injured and have amnesia sunshine enters and says that quote as all the other characters begin mimicking him. He is considered to be a monotone due to his emphasis in his voice or lack there in.
  • Eddie
He is a squirrell who desperately wants to join the Greasers. He's very crazy and energetic, and the Greasers always try to keep him out of the way. In some episodes, he seemed to get along well with Cliff.
  • Dunlap
Dunlap is CatDog's best friend. He's usually eager to help out his friends, but he also backs out of things often.
  • Mervis
Another friend of CatDog's. He's pretty similar to Dunglap, and he has a tendency to injure himself very easily.
  • Ingrid
Originally, Ingrid was Cat's penpal. She's very attracted to Cat. She is, however, very displeased with her stature, and she has a sister alongside her who she often relies on for support whenever needed.
  • Lola Chericola
She is a what seems to be a Mexican toucan, not only is she a researcher. but she is a karate master, a photographer and various other hobbies, she is one of the characters that made an appearance in the second season has become a recurring character ever since.
