Genesee Community College
Information about Genesee Community College
Genesee Community College is a public community college with its main campus in Town of Batavia, New York, USA (near the City of Batavia ). It has branch campuses in Albion, Warsaw, Dansville, and Arcade, and Lakeville, New York. Thus, the college covers areas outside of Genesee County. This two-year college also offers housing facilities to out-of-area students, although the school is attended primarily by commuters.
Two-year associate's degree programs and shorter-duration certificate programs are offered in the areas of business and commerce (including fashion merchandising management, hotel/hospitality management, and travel and tourism), computers and technology, creative arts, health care, human services, law and criminal justice, liberal arts, math and science (including engineering science and environmental studies), office technology and support, sports and physical education, and teaching and education. Many students attend GCC for the first two years of their college career, and then transfer to four-year schools to complete their degrees.
Genesee currently has a total of 11 sports teams. Six of them are men's teams: baseball, basketball, lacrosse, soccer, swimming/diving, and volleyball; while five of them are women's teams: basketball, soccer, softball, swimming/diving, and volleyball. Collectively, they are known as the Cougars, and their colors are blue and gold.
GCC also has a radio station called The Music. It can be heard on 90.7FM, and also at wgcc-fm.com. It broadcasts to an approximately 25 mile radius of the school.
In 2001, a SUNY student poll rated Genesee the 7th most attractive campus in the SUNY system.
For prospective students, there is an online tour available, with photos of nearly every part of the building.
