Harrison County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. As of 2000, the population is 8,850. Its county seat is Bethany6. The county was organized in 1845 and is named after U.S. Congressman from Missouri Albert G. Harrison.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,882 km² (726 mi²). 1,878 km² (725 mi²) of it is land and 3 km² (1 mi²) of it (0.18%) is water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 8,850 people, 3,658 households, and 2,487 families residing in the county. The population density was 5/km² (12/mi²). There were 4,316 housing units at an average density of 2/km² (6/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 98.31% White, 0.14% Black or African American, 0.25% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.09% from other races, and 1.02% from two or more races. 1.01% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 3,658 households out of which 28.30% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.90% were married couples living together, 7.70% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.00% were non-families. 28.80% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.90% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.88.

In the county the population was spread out with 23.80% under the age of 18, 7.20% from 18 to 24, 23.90% from 25 to 44, 23.20% from 45 to 64, and 22.00% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 94.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.60 males.

The median income for a household in the county was $28,707, and the median income for a family was $34,298. Males had a median income of $23,933 versus $17,188 for females. The per capita income for the county was $14,192. About 9.90% of families and 13.50% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.80% of those under age 18 and 15.80% of those age 65 or over.
