Diagram showing the three major planes of the body.
The transverse or
axial plane of the human body is any imaginary slice made that cuts the body into top and bottom sections.
It is one of the planes of the body used to describe the location of body parts in relation to each other.
Mechanically, the transverse plane is perpendicular to the axial plane and to the pitch plane. In gears with parallel axes, the transverse and the plane of rotation coincide.

Examples
The mid-transverse plane is the transverse plane made through the waist, into roughly two halves: the torso, arms and head on the top, and the pelvis and legs (including hands if arms are held vertically) at the bottom. That is the plane seen in the picture.

sagittal plane of the human body is an imaginary plane that travels from the top to the bottom of the body, down the midline, cutting the body into two halves of equal proportion (assuming bilateral symmetry).

A coronal plane (also known as the frontal plane) is any vertical plane that divides the body into ventral and dorsal (front and back) sections.
It is one of the planes of the body used to describe the location of body parts in relation to each other.
