Popalzai

Popalzai or Popalzay is a tribal name of the Pashtun clan that is part of the larger Durrani, Tareen (formerly called Abdali Tareen) tribe. The first king of Afghanistan in the 18th century, Ahmad Shah Abdali, originated from the Abdali tribe but changed the name later to Durrani. The current President of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai, is Popalzai from Kandahar. According to some sources, the Popalzai tribe consists of approximately 50,000 individuals.
