Riverdale is located at (33.564704, -84.410607)GR1.According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.1 km² (4.3 mi²). 11.0 km² (4.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.23% is water.
Demographics
As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 12,478 people, 4,389 households, and 3,107 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,130.9/km² (2,926.3/mi²). There were 4,590 housing units at an average density of 416.0/km² (1,076.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 20.09% White, 67.42% African American, 0.30% Native American, 7.73% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 2.28% from other races, and 2.10% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.81% of the population.There were 4,389 households out of which 44.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.3% were married couples living together, 25.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.2% were non-families. 24.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.80 and the average family size was 3.32.
In the city the population was spread out with 32.5% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 36.1% from 25 to 44, 16.4% from 45 to 64, and 5.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 87.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 80.6 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $39,530, and the median income for a family was $42,323. Males had a median income of $30,802 versus $26,102 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,377. About 10.6% of families and 12.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.0% of those under age 18 and 18.8% of those age 65 or over.
It is also the hometown of R&B singer, Ciara Princess Harris.
