Robert John (born on November 10, 1961 in Birmingham, Alabama) is an American music photographer.

Biography

Born in Birmingham, Alabama on November 10, 1961, Robert John moved to California with his parents when he was three years old. In his youth, Robert had a racing career that ended after an injury to his back and the death of his father.

In 1982, Robert John started as a professional photographer in the music industry by shooting W.A.S.P., London, LA Guns and Hollywood Rose. When the latter became Guns N' Roses, Robert worked with them and became their exclusive photographer when the band was signed to Geffen Records.

Robert is one of the the top international music photographers in the world. His clientele is a Who's Who of the rock n' roll scene that spans the 1980s, 1990s and today, including Guns N' Roses, Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne, Elton John, Backstreet Boys, Rolling Stones, The Cult, Aerosmith, Jane's Addiction, Faith No More, Marilyn Manson, Motörhead, Sepultura and more, as well as many models and actors in entertainment (eg. William Shatner, Power Rangers, Christina Applegate, Leah Cevoli, Susie Owens).

Robert has a reputation for keying in to the artists' brand image and capturing the emotion of rock n' roll in his images and artwork. He developed his own techniques and style that uses light, shadows, grain and contrast, and has the remarkable knack of making any artist look great yet delivering high quality on tight deadline.

His most recent video projects include video footage for Motörhead Stage Fright (Motörhead DVD), live video footage for Sepultura, and promo videos for Class Of Zero, Murder Room, and Jack Dill.

Books

Robert has authored one book entitled Guns N' Roses: The Photographic History, which chronicled the band from its punk Hollywood roots to its extravagant worldwide pinnacle, and has also appeared or received mention in other printed publications including Appetite For Destruction: The Days of Guns N' Roses by Danny Sugerman and Hollywood Rocks! on Cleopatra Records.

Television

Robert's work has also been featured on television in VH1 Behind The Music and in a BBC Documentary called Guns N' Roses: The Photographic History (named after Robert's book) by Indigo Productions based on his work with Guns N' Roses that both still air to date. He has also appeared in cameos in many of Guns N' Roses music videos.

Pinball Machine

Robert's photos were featured on a Guns N' Roses Pinball Machine that was based on Guns N' Roses manufactured by Data East in 1994.

Present

In recent years, Robert concentrated on photography, digital artwork, videography and has seized opportunities outside of his expertise of entertainment. In 2001 he founded FusedArts with Guns N' Roses illustrator Billy White, Jr. to produce unique designs, photo retouching, digital manipulation, CD/DVD album covers, publicity and promotional campaigns, endorsement campaigns, logo and presentation graphics, music videos, web design, etc. for the music and entertainment business.
