Ryan McDonagh (born June 13, 1989 in Arden Hills, Minnesota) is an amateur ice hockey defenceman. He attended Cretin-Derham Hall high school in St. Paul, Minnesota, there he helped lead his team to a state championship as a junior. The following season he was awarded the 2007 Minnesota Mr. Hockey[1] award, which is given annually to the top senior high school hockey player in the state. He has committed to play hockey for the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was drafted in the first round, 12th overall by the Montreal Canadiens on June 22, 2007 in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

His uncle is former NFL QB Steve Walsh.
