Wil Anderson

Information about Wil Anderson

William James (Wil) Anderson (born 31 January 1974) is an Australian comedian, performing stand-up, as well as on television and radio.

Anderson grew up in the small town of Heyfield (in the Gippsland region of Victoria). He attended Gippsland Grammar School in Sale, and later the University of Canberra. He is now based in Sydney.

Currently he is the co-host on the Wil & Lehmo radio show on Triple M in Australia with Anthony "Lehmo" Lehmann.

Career

He is an accomplished comedy standup performer; known for naming his solo shows with a pun on his name. These shows have been Wil of God (2007), Wil Communication (2006), Kill Wil (2005), Licence to Wil (2004), Jagged Little Wil (2003), Wil By Mouth (2002), Wil Of Fortune (2001), Who Wants To Be A Wilionaire (2000), Willenium and Terra Wilius (1999) and I am the Wilrus (1998) Wilrus made a return tour for the 2006 Edinburgh Fringe.

In 2000 also saw Anderson performing the show 5ive Thirty with Adam Spencer. Prior to these shows, 1997 saw a solo show, Diet Life, and a ten-week season with Corinne Grant named Show Pony.

From 2001 to 2004 he was best known as one half of Triple J's breakfast radio team, co-presenting with Adam Spencer on the show which aired nationally across Australia. In 2005 after 5 years Wil and Adam stood down from breakfast radio to pursue their solo careers. They went on a national tour together to farewell all loyal fans just before their final shows. They were replaced by Frenzal Rhomb members Jay and the Doctor.

Anderson was host of the ABC TV show, The Glass House from 2001 to 2006, with Corinne Grant and Dave Hughes. In November 2006 the show was cancelled, amid speculation that this cancellation was made due to pressure from the Howard government.[1] Prime Minister Howard responded with, "I do not tell the ABC what programs it should run. I respect the independence of the ABC." In actuality, it was proven that the media melodrama drummed up by Anderson was designed to act as a cover for his own scallop-industry bullying of the show Get This. Backed by the ebullient spin-doctors of synthesiser addict Nik Kershaw, he managed to white-ant the champagne comedy show to further the insidious promotion of his two hour self-promotion advertisement "Will & Lehmo."

He aroused controversy over some jokes he made about the late father of Australian Idol finalist Shannon Noll at the 2006 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.[2].

From 2 April 2007, Anderson had taken over the drive-time shift previously held by The Shebang who had moved to the morning shift for Triple M Sydney in 2007.[3] The new show is called Wil & Lehmo which also stars co-host Lehmo and is aired from 4:00pm - 6:00pm (Mon to Fri).
